Mechanism of Action
AcquiSci’s medical device based technology permits treatment of ischemic stroke up to 12-18 hours because of its mechanism of action. It does not dissolve the clot, like tPA, but instead works to reduce the inflammation and swelling surrounding the clot, allowing blood and oxygen to return to the brain tissue. It’s the inflammation that inflicts the most brain damage, leading to incapacitation or death.

AcquiSci’s d-OSAB™ technology is based on evoking a naturally occurring anti-inflammatory process in the body by inducing white blood cells, through a transfusion-like process, to undergo, what is known as apoptosis (programmed cell death). Application of a precise measured dose of oxidative stress to the patient's blood outside the body causes their white cells to become apoptotic while maintaining the integrity of the other blood cells and proteins in the blood. When this patient's blood is reintroduced into the body (containing their own apoptotic white blood cells), these altered white blood cells cause a wide variety of cells they contact to undergo a change in function; they start to release anti-inflammatory chemicals and immediately stop producing/releasing pro-inflammatory chemicals. Overall, this causes a cascade-like process throughout the body resulting in a reduction of inflammation surrounding the clot in the brain and an increase in cerebral blood flow. The net effect is to resolve the inflammation around the brain; return blood flow and thereby restore oxygen to this tissue; and, preserve brain tissue and function.
